An energy lesson with nanoscience as the central theme to resolve energy problems was designed by an experimentalist whose field is research in nanoscience and a science educator in physics. The lesson was built on a three-dimensional model incorporating historical perspectives of nanoscience, geometry and physics based on Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). This lesson was piloted in a class preparing prospective STEM teachers in the Mathematics department at Towson University in a course called SEMS 250: Perspectives on Science and Mathematics. As part of the class students were given the opportunity to construct their own lessons based on the hands-on experience they were exposed to. For example, in order to demonstrate the change in surface- to-volume ratio students were given a cube model to demonstrate the concept. At the end of the lesson, there was an increased percentage in confidence levels of the teachers to design a 3-D lesson. The details of the lesson plan, the assessment questions and results of the assessment data will be presented.  <br/>
