Economic growth over the post war years has used increasing quantities of fossil energy and our ability to increase the global supply of conventional crude oil much beyond current levels is uncertain, which may pose a problem for continued economic growth. Metrics such as the depletion of conventional crude oil supplies, resource extraction costs can be used to gauge current and future trends and is the basis of this talk.
