The past, present and future of the Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning – Physical Chemistry Laboratory (POGIL-PCL) project will be described. The project has been designed to improve student learning in physical chemistry laboratory through creation of inquiry-based experiments and sustained faculty development. This presentation will provide a description of physical chemistry experiments that have been developed using POGIL principles that emphasize modeling of both macroscopic and microscopic chemical phenomena. The structure of these activities requires students to design, discuss, and refine experimental protocols. Students work in teams to explore data and, with instructor guidance, develop models to explain their data. Development of these experiments is ongoing and is connected to workshops being held at various locations to disseminate our facilitation methodology and experiments and to create and support a community of authors and implementers.
