Nanoporous materials such as Metal-organic Frameworks have potential applications in gas storage, separations and sensing. The nature of adsorbate-sorbent interactions are crucial in understanding the function of these materials. These interactions are probed indirectly by gas sorption measurements, and often rely on diffraction or spectroscopic techniques to fully elucidate the chemical processes involved. An in-situ gas-dosing variable-temperature diffuse reflectance FTIR instrument has been built which allows simultaneous determination of a material's gas sorption and spectroscopic properties. Direct observations of sorbate-sorbent interactions and thermodynamic properties may be coupled to a gas sorption isotherm, proving a powerful technique which provides insight to complicated systems.
