Poly(2,6-dimethyl phenylene oxide) (PPO) is known for their outstanding dielectric properties. Taking advantage of PPO, two benzoxazines are prepared from a oligo(2,6-dimethyl phenylene oxide)-containing diamine (PPOdiNH2) , which is prepared from the nucleophilic of a commercial product NORYL SA90 with 4-fluoronitrobenzene, followed by catalytic hydrogenation. The first one is a monomer type benzoxazine (P-PPOdiNH2), preparing from the Mannich condensation of PPO-diNH2, phenol, and formaldehyde. The second one is main-chain type polybenzoxazine (B-PPOdiNH2), preparing from the Mannich condensation of bisphenol A (BPA), PPO-diNH2, and formaldehyde. After self-curing, thermosets of P-PPOdiNH2 and B-PPOdiNH2 show high thermal properties ( Tg &gt; 215 oC, Td5% &gt; 430 oC) and low dissipation factor ( Df &lt; 0.0050). P-PPOdiNH2 and B-PPOdiNH2 can also cure with epoxy resin. The resulting thermosets show high thermal properties (Tg &gt; 220 oC, Td5% &gt; 430 oC) and low dissipation factor (Df &lt; 0.008).
