The introduction of inorganic p-block elements into a conjugated system is a powerful technique to alter the properties of that system. Three-coordinate boron is especially interesting as the empty p-orbital on boron increases the electron affinity and the Lewis acidity of the molecule. We have recently discovered a series of boron-containing conjugated systems with interesting emission properties, including dual emissions and ultra-high Stokes shifts. The synthesis, characterization, and computational modeling of these compounds will be presented.
