Metal organic frameworks are three-dimensional, porous polymers that combine inorganic nodes with multi-dentate organic linkers. The vast synthetic diversity in regards to both node and linker combinations has resulted in greater than 60,000 structures. That said, exploration of proton-coupled electron transfer reactions in these networks is in its infancy. The Morris group recently reported the study of PCET in anthraquinone-based frameworks. The studies revealed that while the pH inside the MOF pores is equilibrated with the surrounding solution, defects within the structure (missing linkers or missing nodes) play a critical role in the pH-dependent, electron transfer response. That said, the maintenance of molecular PCET provided the foundation to explore water oxidation chemistry in MOFs. To this end, ruthenium terpyridine bipyridine aquo was incorporated into the backbone of the UiO-67 MOF. The catalytic efficiency was explored, as well as the mechanism of electron transport through the MOF under both electrochemical and chemical activation.<br/>
