Natural organic matter (NOM) plays an essential role in disinfection and biostability of drinking water. The present paper deals with humic acid (HA), which is one of the main types of NOM. Different oxidative systems (microwave (MW) assisted-K2S2O8, ferrate (FeVIO42-, Fe(VI)) and their combination processes) were applied to seek degradation of HA in water. HA could be decomposed by these oxidative techniques. Many intermediates species of HA such as phenol-contained compounds, small molecular alcohols and acids were determined and analyzed using spectroscopic techniques. In the presentation, structural modification of HA during the oxidation at different time interval of the reactions between reactive species and HA will be discussed.
