N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC) have emerged over the last decades as important ligands in organometallic and inorganic chemistry due to their unique electronic and steric properties. There is growing interest in the development of multitopic carbenes capable of supporting molecular and<br/>supramolecular systems. Multimetallic complexes derived from this type of ligands have been investigated not only in catalysis, but also as molecular switches and conjugated organometallic polymers. The synthesis of a new class of bisNHCs that display facially opposed coordination abilities between two metal fragments will be presented. Details on the chemistry of these carbenes with respect to their ability to support catalytically relevant metal complexes will also be provided.
