Iodate salts are strong oxidizers with a variety of commercial applications, yet little is known about the thermal decomposition kinetics of silver iodate, calcium iodate, and bismuth iodate. Using a series of TGA-DSC experiments with varying heating ramps, we investigated the thermal degradation of these three salts at temperatures between 300 and 1273 K in an inert environment. We compare their degradation to the Rammelsberg reaction of barium iodate and determine the best kinetic reaction models to better understand the mechanism for their thermal decomposition.
