For the generation of next-generation lithium batteries, materials that permit the use of lithium metal anodes and high-potential cathodes hold promise for up to 10x increases in energy density. But with these, and with current technology, flammability of liquid electrolytes presents safety risks. We present here our results on the use of organic-molecule/salt co-crystalline electrolytes with unprecedented conductivity properties, favorable device fabrication properties, and novel mechanophysical properites. Characterization by X-ray diffraction and thermal analysis is first presented. Then conductivity behavior from electrochemical impedance and DC cell cycling experiments are discussed. Finally, evidence of novel mechanophysical properties from electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, electrochemistry, and molecular dynamics are presented. Finally, early results on generation of test battery devices using our best materials are presented.
