Amine bis(phenolate) ligands bearing different amino acid derivatives were synthesized in the presence of base, NaOH. The reactions of these ligands with [MoO2(acac)2] in methanol lead to the precipitation of monomeric dioxomolybdenum (VI) complexes [MoO2(OONOMe)(MeOH)]MeOH. Identical reactions in acetonitrile provide dimeric complexes [Mo2O2(μ-O)2(OONOMe)2]. The catalytic activity of these complexes was tested in order to assess their candidacy for polymerization. Synthesized compounds were characterized using NMR techniques (1H, 13C, 13C DEPT, HSQC, HMBC, COSY), IR, TLC, melting point, and x-ray crystallography.
