The Hofstra Chapter of the American Chemical Society Club (SMACS) is dedicated to cultivating and inspiring a love for chemistry both on campus and in the surrounding community. The club accomplishes this goal by engaging in volunteer activities, such as giving in-depth chemistry demonstrations at the New York Hall of Science, helping the Girl Scouts of Nassau County earn their science badges through hands-on experiments, and fundraising for cancer research through Relay for Life. With the introduction of the mentorship program (The Particle Program) undergraduates and upperclassman pair together to foster relationships and improve the initial transition to college life. Overall, the chapter promotes a social and academic atmosphere for students and faculty through different events. From community events such as ice cream socials to scholarly competitions such as the Long Island Chemistry Challenge, SMACS boasts a wide variety of experiences to fulfill our mission: enhance the Hofstra experience through chemistry and community
