A key intermediate in C-H Activation by organometallic complexes reaction is formation of organometallic alkane complexes. We have had longstanding interest (i) in the generated long-lived alkanes complexes [1] and the activation methane and other lighter alkanes by CpRh(CO)<sub>2</sub> and other complexes in solution at room temperature to provide more insight into this oxidative addition reaction [2] and (ii) the use of fast IR experiments in supercritical noble gas solvents allowed the characterisation of Re-Xe complexes and this has recently allowed the characterisation of organometallic Xe by NMR spectroscopy in liquefied xenon at low temperature.[3] The presentation will report recent results in both of these areas particularly new insight into the C-H activation alkanes by Tp’Rh(CNR)(carbodiimide) and the facile generation of organometallic Xe complexes in conventional solvents at room temperature.<br/>
