N-Heterocyclic carbenes have become universally used ligands in organometallic and inorganic coordination chemistry. Attempts to synthesize various chiral ferrocenyl-substituted N-heterocyclic carbenes have been previously reported. We hope to address the progress made towards the synthesis of such carbenes based on trans-1,2-cyclohexanediamine, trans-diphenylethanediamine, and other saturated backbones. The synthesis of these chiral ligands, their characterizations, crystal structures, and potential applications as chiral auxiliaries in nickel-catalyzed organic reactions will be presented.
