The effects of strontium-90, a long lasting radio nucleotide, on urban rubble can be compared to that of samples from calcium based soil. The calcium based soil samples have shown significant amount of quench when quantifying the amount of strontium-90 in the samples. ICP-MS data was used to determine which elements remain in the post column sample other than the strontium-90 in hopes to reduce quench. Calcium, organics, and column size were all tested to see the effect that they had on the quench of the samples through Cherenkov counting. Calcium was shown to have no significant impact on quench in post column samples, while organics from the degradation of the column did have a significant amount of impact on quench, though adjusting the column size did not show any effect on the amount of quench.
