3-Hydroxy-2-oxindoles are a promising class of drug leads possessing a broad range of bioactivities. A general synthetic strategy was designed for rapid access into 3-hydroxy-2-oxindole systems via one- and three-step oxidation protocols of various <i>N</i>ω<i>-</i>functionalized tryptamine derivatives. Preliminary studies aimed at examining structure-activity relationships and the development of analogues targeting several clinically relevant microbial pathogens will be presented.
