Interactions between transition metal based surfaces and contaminants of emerging concern (CEC) based on weak complexation and specific electrostatic interactions offer capabilities for the tailoring of adsorbent materials for selectivity while achieving large working capacities. The adsorbents can be also decorated with anchored moieties or prepared as hierarchical structures to impart better hydrophobicity, further enhancing both selectivity and capacity. Furthermore, these adsorbents could be regenerated based on pH swing, solvent-based or mild thermal reactivation, or a combination of these. This presentation will offer an overview of the development and performance of transition metal based porous adsorbents, including equilibrium and dynamic adsorption tests for single- and multi-component CEC (i.e., caffeine, carbamazepine, clofibric acid, naproxen, salicylic acid), including metabolites (i.e., epoxy carbamazepine, O-desmethylnaproxen, paraxanthine).<br/>
