<br/>North Carolina A&T State University (NCAT) department of Chemistry has started the process of developing an emporium styled General Chemistry course. The model’s premise is based on the very simple context of learning by doing. We have designed an emporium model for first semester general chemistry with the following activities:<br/>A. Develop and implement an emporium model for first semester general chemistry at NCAT and NCCU.<br/>B. Compare and assess the emporium model for first semester general chemistry with the traditional general chemistry model for improved learning outcomes.<br/>The research question that we seek to answer is can an emporium framework that focuses on algorithmic and conceptual components as well as immediate feedback and just in time teaching improve students’ deeper learning in general chemistry? Our findings show that students have better performance on standardized test as compared to those who used a traditional pedagogical model.
