In honor of the 50<sup>th</sup> anniversary of our university, we have decided to focus on the history and evolution of our club. The SMSU ACS Student Chapter has existed and been active for 45 years! School and community reaction shows have remained our primary form of outreach.  We continue to use traditional demonstrations that we know children enjoy, like “Elephant’s Toothpaste,” but we also try to find some “new-to-us” demonstrations, like the “Ping Pong Popper” to add variety.  In addition, we “resurrect” old demonstrations that were somehow left behind, such as “Cold Light.”  In this way, our reaction shows continue to morph and evolve over time. In addition to reaction shows, we love doing hands-on activities with children, be it in a classroom or at open community events such as our “Chemistry at the Y.” As with our reaction shows, we use a mix of old and new activities at these events. Some of our other club activities are longstanding, such as participating in the Homecoming Parade and the “Adopt-a-Highway” program, while others, like our end-of-semester auction event, are recent additions.  Although demonstrations and activities may change over the years, one thing remains the same: wanting to share our passion for chemistry!
