With applications in sectors from biopharmaceuticals and petrochemical to cosmetics and beyond, near infrared spectroscopy (NIR) is a vital tool that is used around the world. Though not as common as other spectroscopic techniques, such as mid-IR and Raman, NIR has distinct advantages over these technologies for many applications. Starting with the fundamental physics of NIR spectroscopy, this talk will look at how to bring these advantages to chemical and polymer production by chemometric analysis of spectroscopic data. In particular, we will focus on best practices for combining titration and other commonly used primary analytical methods to NIR spectroscopy. The result of this is a set of practical strategies for implementing NIR spectroscopy in a manufacturing environment.
