The Colorado State University (CSU) Chemistry Club fosters interest in all STEM fields through a combination of member meetings and community events. In our member meetings, we encourage everyone to join in intriguing demonstrations that give a physical understanding of the basic properties of chemistry and physics. We discuss the science behind such phenomenon by explaining the chemical reaction mechanisms and thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, and instrumentation while maintaining a fun and friendly environment.  We play chemistry infused games such as jeopardy with chemistry facts and perform fun group activities like creating nylon strings that span across the room.  We maintain an active outreach program for our community by hosting events on campus and at local schools.  In our events, we always incorporate an effort to promote basic chemistry education but framed within engaging themes such as Harry Potter and storybook-themed activities. We strive to take the fear out of learning chemistry and to get as many youths as possible involved with critical thinking about the chemistry that goes on around them every day. Our presentation for this ACS meeting will center around how our club engages the community to further the progress of science by breaking social stigmas and we will demonstrate our commitment to getting more youth interested in the STEM fields.
