Resorcinarenes have been used as a versatile framework for cavitands - enforced cavity molecules - from sensors to binders for immiscible polymers. Resorcin[4]arene is known as a versatile building block of cavitands due, in part, to the crown of eight hydroxyl groups whose adjacent pairs can be linked using, for example, dichloroquinoxaline. Another useful part of resorcin[4]arene is the R groups. These R groups can be selected to provide the proper solubility for subsequent reactions and applications. Studies have reported good yields of resorcin[4]arene synthesis under large scale conditions with particular R groups but poor yields for other R groups. A current issue in our lab is the purification of resorcin[4]arene by recrystallization. This poster aims to compare the purification of two resorcin[4]arene homologs (R= C<sub>5</sub> and C<sub>11</sub>); along with a comparison of the purification methods for quinoxaline derivatives. The variables tested were partial purification, solvent system, and scale. The results of the purifications will be reported in this work.
