<br/>A nickel-based photocatalytic system for the direct coupling of amines with aryl halides has been developed. Recent advances have shown that nickel catalysts are ideal for photoredox dual cross-coupling reactions. Our system, composed of a nickel catalyst and a ruthenium photosensitizer, is capable of synthesizing aryl amines with high yields. Spectroscopic studies support a mechanism where under visible light irradiation, the ruthenium photosensitizer can oxidize the amine substrates, generating an amine radical. The subsequently reduced photosensitizer then activates the nickel catalyst via a single electron transfer. This unique amine-radical-based mechanism allows for the direct synthesis of a wide variety of aryl amines previously unattained by nickel catalysts. This presentation outlines this new methodology, along with a viable substrate scope and overlying mechanistic exploration while laying the foundation for further research.<br/>
