The lignocellulosic biomass valorization, for biofuel production, is industrially performed under acid condition, mainly at high acid concentration. The aim of this treatment is the production of monomeric sugars that can be transformed into biofuel for the glucose and synthons for the xylose. Another pathway could be the alkaline extraction that solubilize both lignin and hemicelluloses. This approach leads to a more complex extract increasing the difficulties of further refining. The aim of this work was to compare the influence of the two extraction conditions on the purification processes with sugar cane bagasse as raw material. Extraction have been managed in batch reactor with a liquid/ratio of 20.<br/>In a first time, the acid extraction has been performed with a high acid concentration of 72% and the obtained extract contained mainly monomers of sugars and the lignin has been removed by precipitation and liquid/solid separation. Then, the acid recovery has been studied with cationic resins as described in the industrial process. After, the main problem was the glucose/xylose separation that has been studied by pulse chromatography with cationic resins in order to design a SMB process. The xylose purity was the key factor in order to have a valuable valorization.<br/>The alkaline extract has been obtained after reaction in a batch with a sodium hydroxide concentration of 1.5%. This procedure allows for the solubilization of both lignin and hemicelluloses that are obtained under oligomeric form without any monomers. A first chromatographic step allowed for the separation between oligomers (phenolic and sugars) and neutral monomeric phenolic compounds and ashes. A  membrane filtration step was used finally for the separation between the phenolic oligomers and sugars.<br/>The alkaline process is just a little more complex with an extra-separation step but without neutralization step and give the opportunity to have better valorization of the phenolic compounds.
