Overuse of antibiotics can lead antibiotic-resistance bacteria (ARB) and antibiotic-resistance genes (ARGs) propagation, which represent a growing public health threat. Furthermore, ARGs can pass between microorganisms, which might disturb natural ecological balance and shade health risks to humans and animals.<br/>In this work, we found the stress response genes up-regulated for all bacterial strains during light irradiation time, and the highest value was found in the donor bacteria under UV irradiation. Simultaneously, the conjugative transfer efficiency increased during light irradiation from donor to receptor strain. The conjugative transfer efficiencies from <i>E. coli</i> DH5a(CTX-M-1G) to C600(Sm) and from DH5a(MCR-1) to C600(Sm) under UV irradiation were approximately 100 and 10 times higher than that with no light irradiation, respectively. Comparatively, stress response genes up-regulation and conjugative transfer efficiency increased slightly under simulated sunlight irradiation. This study can provide knowledge of the transportation and environmental fate of ARB and ARGs in water.
