Cotton fabrics were successfully functionalized with a water-stable MOF, UiO-66, under mild solvothermal conditions (80°C). The textile samples were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). XRD confirmed the presence of UiO-66 on the samples while SEM and TEM showed that the UiO-66 crystals grow in a uniform manner over the surface of the cotton fibers.<br/>These textile specimens functionalized with metal-organic framework exhibited photocatalytic activity as demonstrated in the degradation of paracetamol under simulated sunlight irradiation. These results indicate that UiO-66 can be supported on textile substrates and used in photocatalytic applications such as waste water decontamination and micro pollutant degradation.
