<br/>The combination of Electrical Field Flow Fractionation (EIFFF) and asymmetrical flow-FFF (AF4) in a single channel is presented as a novel method for the separation of macromolecules and particles on the basis of size and charge.<br/><br/>The EAF4 method requires no calibration; performance was verified by particle standards measured in batch mode by phase analysis light scattering (PALS) for comparison. Complications from electrolysis are mitigated in EAF4 by low applied voltages and the isolation of electrodes from analytes within the channel. In this work for the first time the new analytical technique of electrical flow-FFF (EAF4) was applied to latex particles and other samples to determine not only the electrophoretic mobility but as well its distribution as a function of size. This analysis is made possible by performing a series of separation experiments starting without electrical field and then increasing the field strength in at several steps. One requirement to produce charge distribution data is that the radius of eluting fractions is measured by multi-angle light scattering. The application of this method is demonstrated on polymer latex samples and charged polysaccharides such as pectin.
