Harnessing persistent radicals for chemical synthesis has garnered much attention in recent years. While radical polymerization has proven quite robust and successful, the use of free radicals in the synthesis of complex molecules, especially natural products, remains underutilized. This investigation focuses on leveraging persistent phenoxyl radicals for the synthesis of phenylpropanoid natural products. These phenoxyl radical intermediates arise via anodic oxidation, offering a green alternative to traditional methods. Ultimately, this approach realizes highly convergent synthetic routes that likely mimic the biosynthesis of these complex natural products.
