Currently, with the increasing of the national energy demand and development intensity, the exploration and development of deep-water oil and gas resources have gradually attracted the global attention. However, deep-water drilling engineering are faced with obstacles because of large temperature difference. Developing novel working fluids especially drilling fluids to enhance their rheological stability in drilling process has become a key technique to solve these problems. In this work, poly(AM-AMPS-NVP)/SiO2 nanocomposite microspheres are prepared via reverse micro-emulsion method by using reactive system of acrylamide(AM), 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid (AMPS),N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (NVP) and SiO2 nanoparticles. The structure and morphology of the samples are characterized by infrared spectrometer (IR), particle size distribution (PSD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results show that these nanocomposite microspheres have particle size of 70nm-150nm with good dispersion behavior and surface morphology. Thermal gravity analysis (TGA) show that the maximum decomposition temperature of the nanocomposites microspheres increases by 20°C compared with the pure samples. The viscosity experiments present that the ratio of viscosity in salinity water at 3°C to that at 120°C is 2.93 at fixed rotational speed, while the ratio of viscosity at 150 r/min to that at 400 r/min is 1.2 under 30°C temperature condition. These results prove that nanocomposite microspheres can improve the rheology stability. The tests for salinity resistance also show that the nanocomposites haeve better salinity tolerance in different salt solutions compared with the pure. This research will provide a candidate material for tuning and controlling the rheological stability of drilling fluid under the large temperature difference conditions in deep-water oil and gas engineering.
