The pharmaceutical industry is undergoing significant transformation. Our scientific, business and regulatory requirements are rapidly evolving and having a significant impact on how we approach the development of new therapeutics. At Amgen, we are a modality independent company and as the breadth and complexity of new modalities entering development from either therapeutic discovery or in licensing opportunities expands, new paradigms to successfully accelerate and commercialize these entities are required. Over the last decade, the role of the process development has evolved and as our timelines are being increasingly compressed, our ability to develop these candidates leveraging unique models for collaboration and partnership are required. We need to be able to develop strategic partnerships across a range of external innovation hubs and transfer these technologies rapidly into our global Process Development network to support our commercialization efforts and evolve viable lifecycle management solutions. The balance of freedom to operate vs our internal Intellectual Property strategies vs external scientific visibility is important in defining our innovative footprint, supporting our externalization strategy and developing the scientific eminence of our organization. Finally integration of a highly diverse set of scientists and engineers working together to jointly develop our commercial processes will remain at the core of our business. This talk will describe the evolution in innovation within Process Development over the last two decades to enable us to continue to rapidly deliver novel therapies to patients with grievous illnesses.
