Total syntheses of complex, biologically active terpene-based natural products will be discussed with an emphasis on the enabling synthetic tactics and strategies developed. Focus will be placed on a discussion of complex meroterpenes, fungal-derived sesterterpenes, and polyhydroxylated terpenes. The exploitation of oxidative synthetic strategies in synthesis, as well as new methods for complex polycycle assembly, will be highlighted
