In this talk, I will give an overview on our recent advances in Hannover towards the preparation of large ensembles of ultracold polar molecules for applications ranging from ultracold chemistry to quantum simulation. In the first part of my talk, I will discuss our progress towards the preparation of quantum gases of polar 23Na39K molecules starting from ultracold atomic ensembles. This includes measurements of the interspecies Feshbach resonances and properties of the resulting dual species BEC with largely tunable interactions. In the second part of my talk, I will present the first Zeeman slowing scheme for a large class of laser-coolable molecules. The scheme should result in a continuous, high flux beam of slow molecules at velocities trappable in magnetic and magneto-optical traps and therefore provide the missing link for the preparation of large ultracold laser-cooled molecular ensembles in current experiments.
