In this poster, a novel and simple method for the preparation of various arylnaphthalene lactone natural products was developed and used to synthesize diphyllin, justicidin A, cilinaphthalide B, taiwanin E, chinensinaphthol, taiwanin E methyl ether, chinensinaphthol methyl ether, justicidin C, and justicidin D. The syntheses proceeded <i>via</i> Hauser-Kraus annulation of cyanophthalides and Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling of arylnaphthalene lactones having a sulfonate group with the corresponding potassium aryltrifluoroborates.
