Organic chemistry is full of hard-learned lessons which can be central to a student's success in the course and in future courses in chemistry and biochemistry. Utilizing undergraduate teaching assistants during active-learning provides an avenue for recent students to share their insights with current students. The near-peer recitation relationship and in-class problem solving support gives current students an opportunity to converse about 'concept-sticking-points' of organic chemistry with less intimidation. It also provides former students, many of whom are chemistry and biochemistry majors, with the opportunity to attain a greater understanding of the chemical principles that influence organic chemistry.
