Mannich condensations are rapid, convienent reactions for preparing multidentate aminophenol ligands. By varying the amine presursor, one can control the denticity, steric, and electronic properties of the resulting ligands. Using a series of propargyl amine derivatives, di-, tri-, and tetradentate aminophenol ligands have been prepared and characterized. The alkyne portion of these ligands are capbable of undergoing copper catalyzed click reactions. The synthesis of these ligands, their click related chemistry, and the resulting metal complexes will be described.
