Liquid phase oxidation of cyclohexane was carried out under mild reaction conditions over a palladium based heterogeneous catalyst in CH3CN using hydrogen peroxide as an oxidant. The palladium based catalyst was prepared using ethylenediamine and oxalic acid to complex with palladium ions, which was then loaded on supports such as carbon nanosphere, MgO, SiO2 and Fe2O3 using wet incipient method. The finished catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, TEM, FT-IR, TPR and CO chemisorption. It was found that the mole ratio of the ethylenediamine and oxalic acid and the synergic interactions between palladium and the supports are the key factors for the excellent performance of the catalyst. In addition, a significant improvement for the cyclohexane conversion in the presence of organic acid was observed.
