Metallylenes are the heavier analogues of carbenes, where the carbon center is replaced by silicon, germanium, tin or lead, and named silylene, germylene, stannylene or plumbylene, respectively. Due to the size difference of the valence s and p orbitals, heavier group 14 elements have low tendency to form hybrid orbitals, resulting in large s character of the lone pair. Therefore, bonding situation of metallylene to main-group and transition metals could be distinct from that observed in carbene complexes. In this poster, coordination chemistry and reactions of N,N-dimesityl-substituted benzannulated metallylene will be discussed. Preliminary results show that the reaction is dependent on both the electronic structure of the central divalent group 14 metals and the steric bulkiness of the N-substituent. In addition, a pincer type ligand consisting of two phosphines and one metallylene is developed. Synthesis and coordination chemistry of the PEP pincer ligand will also be presented. Furthermore, besides the N-E-N systems, a new type of C-E-C metallylene consisting of both L- and X-type carbon ligands will also be investigated (E= group 14 element).
