Recently, our group has discovered and elaborated upon a titanium-catalyzed nitrene transfer to alkynes or enynes, which involves a redox event centered at the metal center. One such reaction is the formation of pyrroles from two equivalents of alkyne and a nitrene source. The mechanistic understanding of this catalytic cycle is of significant interest for the development of regioselective and chemoselective applications of the catalytic system. The investigation of the effects of covalent donors on early metal redox catalysis using titanium imidos is presented.
