A steep growth of renewable energy resulted in high demands for large scale energy storage system (ESS). Redox flow batteries (RFBs) as the promising candidates for ESS possess advantages such as long life cycle and convenient system expansion. Most of preceding researches focused on aqueous RFBs, meanwhile, non-aqueous RFBs have been attempted to overcome truncated operating potential. Vanadium acetylacetonate (V(acac)3) has been intensively studied as an active species for non-aqueous RFBs because of wide potential range (2.2 V) and uniformity during redox reaction. However, low stability of V(acac)3 deteriorated cycle efficiency. We demonstrated the effect of ionic liquids additives on stability of V(acac)3.
