Porphyrin dye has been proposed to be an efficient photosensitizer due to its structural similarity to natural Chlorophyll, and thus successfully engaged in the dye-sensitized solar cells. However, under elongated visible light irradiation condition it tends to be degraded. So, immediate concern is how to either upholster the photostability of porphyrin dye itself or find a way to deter the photodegradation of porphyrin dye by engaging an efficient photoconversion system that can deplete ‘solar electron’ harvested from the dye. Within this context, we found lower-energy Q band of porphyrin was sufficient enough to drive CO2 reduction and further modification on porphyrin enabled to mark an unprecedented catalytic activity of TONCO2 to CO ~800 for a prolonged reaction time, 90 h. In this study, a series of porphyrin photosensitizers have been engaged onto the organic-inorganic hybrid photocatalyst in which an efficient CO2 to CO conversion Re catalyst was grafted on the TiO2 semiconductor surface that drained out the ‘solar electron’ from the porphyrin for CO2 reduction. The photocatalytic activities of porphyrin hybrids differ greatly with the binding strength of the anchoring groups of dye and spectral range of the irradiated light and its intensity.
