Carbon nanotubes are examples of molecular structures residing in the materials world that have no good synthetic solution. I will describe my research group's efforts towards developing methods and strategies that can deliver these challenging targets with atomistic precision. More broadly, I will discuss our vision for accessing new classes of molecular cylinders with the unmatched structural control of synthetic organic chemistry.
