Pentafulvene ligand coordination chemistry remains of active interest due to the varied bonding and structural properties of such complexes. Due to the difficulty in preparing a wide variety of substituted fulvenes, their coordination chemistry remains widely unexplored relative to their unsubstituted counterparts. Sterically demanding 1,3,6-trisubstituted fulvenes provide a varied, structurally and electronically tunable platform. This work will discrete transition metal complexes of these bulky ligands, specifically the synthesis and full characterization of 1,3-diphenyl-6-R (R = phenyl, styrl, pyrenyl, cyclohexyl, sec-butyl, ferrocenyl, tertbutyl) fulvene chromium complexes. This study will investigate the influence of fulvene substitution on the geometric and electronic properties of the resulting metal complexes.
