Metallic silver nanoparticles, when coordinated with host-guest interactions, provide a useful way to detect biomolecules, specifically the steroid Testosterone.  Silver nanoparticles were synthesized by reduction of silver nitrate with hydrazine and then capped with βCD by exposing the Ag-NP solution to different concentrations of βCD ranging from 1 nM to 500 nM. The attachment of βCD to the nanoparticles was confirmed by a blue shift in the UV-Vis spectra. When these βCD capped silver nanoparticles were exposed to a guest molecule, such as testosterone, a new LSPR peak around 450 nm was observed indicating aggregation of the particles.   The sensitivity of each Ag-NP/ βCD solution to aggregation when exposed to testosterone was investigated.  A βCD concentration of 5 nM was found to have the greatest sensitivity for detection of testosterone.  This βCD concentration corresponds to the saturation of the blue-shift in the Ag-NP LSPR peak.  A minimum testosterone concentration of 3 mg/L could be detected by these particles. A calibration curve was created by using a range of [testosterone] to quantify the amount of testosterone in samples with unknown testosterone concentrations. <br/>
