The high optical absorption cross section and near-unity luminescence quantum yield of CsPbX3 nanocrystals combined with efficient energy transfer from exciton to Mn makes Mn-doped perovskite nanocrystal a promising material platform for producing energetic hot electrons applicable for efficient long-range hot electron transfer. In this presentation, the synthesis of Mn-doped CsPbCl3 and CsPbBr3 perovskite nanocrystals, time-resolved pump-probe study of the dynamics of exciton-Mn energy transfer and generation of energetic non-plasmonic hot electrons in Mn-doped CsPbCl3 nanocrystals will be discussed. While Mn-doping in CsPbX3 host is more challenging than in II-VI semiconductor host, we successfully achieved doping in both CsPbCl3 and CsPbBr3 host, opening the door for the use of perovskite nanocrystals for intraparticle exciton-dopant energy transfer. Time-resolved study indicated that the rate of exciton-Mn energy transfer is somewhat slower than in II-VI quantum dots, while it can be enhanced by imposing the quantum confinement. Hot electron photocurrent measurement indicated that Mn-doped CsPbCl3 is a viable material for producing hot electrons under weak visible light via exciton-hot hot carrier upconversion.
