The International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, IUPAC, is the global organization that provides objective scientific expertise and develops the essential tools for the application and communication of chemical knowledge for the benefit of humankind and the world. Among IUPAC’s contributions to chemistry include projects, programs and collaborations on guidelines for codes of conduct for chemists, safety and security training for chemists in developing countries, sustainability, environmental monitoring and protection, and resources for education and outreach on dual use chemicals.  Since 2002, IUPAC has partnered with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, OPCW, on four international workshops to review scientific and technological developments relevant to the Chemical Weapons Convention, and on the development and promulgation of the Hague Ethical Guidelines.  IUPAC also collaborates with organizations including the UN Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management, SAICM, and has contributed to resources developed by the U. S. National Academies for safety and security in chemistry laboratories in the developing world.
