We report here a new approach of preparing nano-encapsulated complex hydride by graphene, hydride@graphene, as the next-generation hydrogen storage material. A simple yet robust synthesis method was applied to prepare hydride nanoparticles individually wrapped or sandwiched a “graphene wrapper”.  The new morphology effectively prevented the segregation dehydrogenated products and H<sub>2</sub> contamination. It also significantly improved the discharge-charge kinetics and cyclability. The use of light-weight graphene minimized the parasitic weight and enhanced the net gravimetric capacity.  The new synthesis strategy could have a broad impact to other material applications such as catalysis, gas storage and separation, etc, where the selective hydrogen permeation is highly desirable.<br/>
