The field of nanomaterials is uniquely poised to offer advancements in topics as broad and diverse as catalysis, energy, lighting, and display technologies. Meeting this variety of uses demands an equally expansive list of materials and a robust synthetic control over their composition, size, phase, and shape. Such control has however remained elusive as nanoscale processes have been observed to consistently deviate from classical concepts of crystallization and growth. In our work we investigate such nonclassical reaction pathways involved in the conversion of an InP magic sized cluster species to quantum dots. We demonstrate the ability to kinetically control this conversion at near room temperature while dictating the phase of the resulting nanomaterial. We characterize this phase as a novel crystalline structure analogous to polytwistane. <br/>
