The University of St. Thomas American Chemical Society student chapter is one of the largest student clubs on its campus and has received many awards in the past ten years. The UST student chapter has been able to reach its accomplishments by successfully publicizing and holding general meetings on a monthly basis, by planning various activities of interest for its members, and by interacting with local ACS section as well as the greater Houston community. Our officers offer tutoring in chemistry and physics material to our members and non-members. We organize a yearly STEM career forum where guests speak about their chemistry related career fields. We participate in the National Chemistry Week event held by ACS at the Houston Children’s Museum performing chemistry demonstrations for the children. We provide chemistry demonstrations on campus during family & alumni weekend and during the Houston Independent School District’s Education Rainbow Challenge, serving over 1,000 children in the Houston Area. The UST ACS chapter actively collaborates with other university groups in order to fundraise or to promote diversity and school spirit. We also hold various social events, such as webinars, or barbecues where students are able to tie-dye their lab coats.
