Direct-Write (DW) technology such as aerosol deposition printing, offers a synergistic opportunity to develop more technologically agile devices due to its ability to perform non-contact deposition and minimum 10 µm printing resolution on conformal surfaces. Aerosol deposition employs formulation of nanoparticle based inks, termed N-inks, and are used to fabricate electronic components such as resistors, transistors, and capacitors. As DW processes continue to expand into printed electron components and circuitry, the development of new and more versatile N-inks is critical. Coinage nanometals (Cuo, Ago, and Auo) have generally dominated the printed electronic application space, while low Z metals such as the first row transition metals (i.e., Ni, Co, Fe, Mn) are less explored. Therefore, we have focused our efforts on the first row transition metals due to their diverse properties such as magnetism, conductivity, and corrosion resistance behavior. For our efforts a variety of precursors were decomposed to determine their utility in generating tailored (i.e., crystalline phase, size, and morphology) nanoparticles. The high quality nanomaterials produced were converted to N-inks using an antioxidant, dispersant, and the optimum solvent and printed using aerosol deposition. In addition aging studies were conducted to determine the longevity of the printed materials in humid and corrosive environments.
